| Inspite of the Machine like
nature of the Cylons their civlization is indeed
built on a principle of inequality. Much as one
human is not always equal to another, one machine
is not always equal to another. The Cylon society
is composed primarily of combat Centurians, Gold
Commander Centurians, IL Series Droids, and the
Imperious Leader. The Cylon Centurian is the
backbone of the Cylon war machine. It can carry
out ground campaigns, man equipment, pilot
planes, and even make repairs and basic tactical
assesments. The Centurian basically follows a
program protocol and lacks any creativity or
initiative. The Cylon Centurain is used in waves
and as part of a bulk attack force to make up for
this fact.
The Gold Command Centurian acts much like a
Sergeant out in the field. Its voice is deeper,
and its armor is gold so that vocally or visually
other Cylons can quickly tell the Command
Centurian that is in charge. Gold Centurains
command crews of two onboard Cylon Raider attack
craft and often lead Centurians in quests to
subjugate and control world's of Cylon dominion.
The IL Series Droid is in essence a city
planner and tactician that directs Cylon forces
onboard basestars, and conquered planets. Gold
Centurians follow orders and plans set forth by
IL Series Droids, and the droids themselves seem
to exhibit basic human traits such as modesty,
ambition, and fear.
The Imperious Leader is a specially chosen IL
Series droid that is encassed in an organic
shell. This is done as an everlasting statement
of the supremacy of Cylon life to that of their
former organic creators and all other life in the
universe. The Imperious leader rules and directs
all Cylon affairs throughout the empire. Like a
king, the Imperious leader can be replaced or
overthrown if it exhibits weakness.
Interestingly enough in the Battlestar saga
one sees walking robotic machines everywhere but
does not see massive Cylon computer structures.
Spacecraft are piloted by robots and not
computers and laser cannons on the ground are as
well. This seems ironic considering the automated
nature of the Cylons. From this perspective the
Cylons are as averse to technological change as
humans were long ago. They have yet to experience
their own industrial revolution where displaced
Cylon workers will have to compete with single
task oriented specialized machines.
